Ahh well, so much for updating regularly. Almost an entire school year has passed since my last post, and what a hectic one it has been. The new first-years arrived yesterday for Accepted Student Event and I was overcome with such a strange feeling watching them through the Palace door- that was us, not too long ago.

Right now we are closing in on film deadlines, so no new art. However, I did have the opportunity to collaborate with my classmates on public service announcements for a competition. The two that our class presented are Dragon and Heart; together- DragonHeart. I want to watch a movie. It's been a long time *sigh*. Anyway, they are embedded below~ There are a few other videos and many poster ads to see too, just click on the "back to list" link in the upper right corner, under "professors". Voting begins on April 13th so please vote for your favorite one!

2 or 3 weeks ago life drawing D:

From the left: 20 min in tonbo and vine charcoal, then tonbo for the rest. The model brought in cat ears, a toy axe, and a broken plastic pitch fork :) I think that's the part I like the best about figure drawing at CalArts- the models really go all out with the costume changes, and amazing poses.

On the far left, one of four turn-arounds, I think. He strapped his belt around the deer's neck for this one xD On the right, all four turn-arounds. Both are tonbo pen on sketch paper.

Update!

In addition to using this as an art blog, I've decided to try integrating a school journal as well :) It's been pretty hectic, but I'll try updating every once in a while.

Also, I've got a portfolio how-to in the works, for those looking for some samples and stuff.

Cheers!

Sorry for the bad photos! My Ott lite just doesn't quite cut it...I'll try and get my scanner sent up.

We had our first (7 hr) figure drawing class this week Thursday~ It didn't feel like 7 hours at all! It actually felt like the 3 hour KCC studio classes. Everyone in class is super talented! I'm struggling to keep up.

These were done in ink and watercolor. I don't have all my supplies yet, so no charcoal or pastels etc. The model was amazing though! She posed nude in the beginning, but put on costumes and stuff later on.

I've got some other drawings from this session, and some sketchbook things too, but I think I might save that for after the scanner comes...

watercolors: 1 / me: 0

Still fiddling with the watercolors. I don't think I'm quite ready to tackle the tube watercolors just yet :\ Done with my small Sakura watercolor travel set, white Uni-ball Signo pen, and colored Copic Multiliners.

でも今は 遠くまで 歩き出せる、そう君と この道で 出会ってから

1. A ladybug that kept me company while I was waiting for a ride.

2. Man sitting by the window in Peet's Coffee, Valencia. He kept staring up at the sky. I wonder what he was contemplating- he was there, like that, for a while.

3. Stinky girl. I probably felt stinky at the time.

4. Sketches done waiting for the plane, in the plane, and back at KCC. I think the bottom one is Zippy's.

5. More KCC people. I found an awesome, quiet picnic bench in the shade where I can sit down and watch people come and go from campus to the top parking lot.

6. 3 imaginary dogs. Pardon the perspective ///

Calarts Portfolio

Calarts portfolio is up!

It's 16 files, so I uploaded it to my lj gallery. Looking back on the things I put in, I kind of wish I spent more time on it. I was in such a rush to get it out by the preferred deadline that I winged a lot of stuff. Sometimes when I look at other people's portfolios, I really wonder how I got in. But I'm happy that I did. Now, to work my ass off more and catch up to my peers D:

Vous êtes belles, mais vous êtes vides.... On ne peut pas mourir pour vous

Last-minute layout project for digital painting. I spent so long trying to figure out what to paint, that I hardly had time to paint it xD The light change wasn't too effective...I think I need to paint over the hue change more, and pull down the contrast on the lotus.

Doodle in Psych and three sketches of my sister sleeping through her spring break :)

leaves don't drop, they just let go

I wanted to say thanks to all the well-wishers~ I really appreciate your support!

Still nothing in the mail though *siigh*. I'm so worried- it happened like this last year too. I saw everyone getting acceptance letters, and then right after that, the notice of wait-listing. Out-of-state and international applicants got their acceptance letters (Texas, New York, England...), and news of California acceptances is likewoah tons of people. I'm afraid they're skipping over me again, which is sad, as I really, really want this, and I feel like this is my last chance. I don't think I can stay in Hawaii any longer.

[cont. in following post]

I've started trying brush pens~ they make the most wonderful lines :D Sunabe lets me sit in on his life drawing class, so I can draw from a model on Tuesday and Thursday. The Sunday sessions are hard to attend. His class is also thinking of doing their own life drawing session (for students only) on Friday, which would help me a lot too.
